What does it mean that Our minds are not our own?

Our minds are not our own:
There are many distractions in life that constantly battle our senses for attention. From the moment we are born, many of us are exposed to thousands of advertisements, movies, television shows and radio shows of people telling us their opinions of how we should think, how we should act, how we should feel. All these influences can trick our minds, hearts and souls into believing that happiness comes from what is around us, instead of what is inside us.
By the time we reach adulthood, we have literally been brainwashed into thinking the way the matrix of society wants us to think and act, instead of the way God wants us to think and act. Once we become addicted to society’s influences, our souls become separated from God and slowly “disintegrate” in this world. This creates a discourse between our heart and our soul which causes us to be angry, bitter, nervous, worried, confused, ignorant of the truth, sad, lonely, depressed, fearful of what is happening in our lives and in our future.
This brainwashing that pulls our souls away from God has been going on for thousands of years. It is perpetrated by someone who wants to destroy and separate us from the love we have for ourselves, the love we have for others, and the love God has for us. It is perpetuated by mankind’s greatest enemy of all time—Satan. He is the dark force of evil in this world also known as the Devil, Beelzebub and the Evil One.
We can always tell when we are being separated from God's Love because we begin to feel a void, an emptiness, a sadness within us we cannot explain. Many of us will try and fill this emptiness with alcohol, sex, drugs, food, pornography, gambling, thrill-seeking, materialism, extremism, etc. These things only provide a temporary escape from the emptiness we feel. This is why we consume more and more of these things. We are trying to fill the void and emptiness that is quietly growing within us. This consumption can create patterns of lies, deceit, low self-esteem and self-destructive behaviour (sin) that can last for years and years separating us even further from God and those who we love, and who love us.
Remember this: “The purpose of the Devil is to separate us from God's Love.” This is what happens when we fall so far away from God that our souls no longer feel the presence of God's Love dwelling in us. Our souls become... lost. A “lost soul” is a soul in jeopardy of being claimed by the Evil One.
The void, the emptiness, the sadness within us we cannot explain is actually our souls telling us there is something missing in our lives. That “something missing” is the presence of God’s Love within our hearts, within our minds and within our souls:
And Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is, Hear O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord [30] And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all they heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment" (The Gospel, Mark 12:29-30)
What do you “love” in this world? Is it your car? Your house? Maybe it’s your television and all the shows you love to watch? Maybe you love your money, land, jewellery, wardrobe, sports team or some exclusive vacation resort? Or maybe you love a particular movie star, singer, athlete or celebrity who you will never meet, or love you back.
We spend thousands of hours loving and adoring things, places, and people who cannot add another minute to our lives. And yet, when it comes to loving God, the One Being who can actually grant what we desire most in this world—eternal life—some of us only spend an hour or two a week devoting our love and attention to God.
The day we stop loving all the things, places and celebrities of this world, and start loving God with the same adoration and passion, is the day we will begin to understand the type of relationship God wants to have with His Children. And the more we draw closer to God, the more God will draw closer to us blessing us with the type of inner peace, love and strength that we are not capable of having on our own.
It is only by filling our hearts and souls with the Love of God that we gain the strength to overcome our human weaknesses and feel a Presence in us that is lasting and real. That Presence, is the Holy Spirit, the Love of God. When we feel the presence of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, we know, without any doubt, that our God is a living God who desires to be just as much a part of our lives in this world, as He does in the next.
Remember, our souls do not want to be filled with the materialism and vices of this world (sin). Our souls want to be filled with the love and fellowship of God, and the love and fellowship of His People. Our souls want to feel happy and content, at peace with ourselves and with others, especially through difficult times.
But before we can begin to feel this lasting inner-peace; before we can begin to fill the void and emptiness that weighs within our heart; before we can begin to understand our main purpose and goal in life; before we can begin our journey towards living a happy, fulfilled and eternal life—we must be "born again.”
