The "Sinner's Prayer?"
The "sinner’s prayer" is a confession made before Jesus and God that we want to avoid sin and surrender ourselves to living according to God’s Authority, and not our own.
There are different variations of the "sinner’s prayer”. The version you just read in the paragraphs above is for those who have decided to sincerely accept Jesus into their heart and follow God's Teachings.
Other versions of the “sinner’s prayer” are meant to help us grow in our love for God. We grow in our love for God when we avoid sin. Sin is any word, desire, action or feeling that prevents us from feeling God’s Love within us at all times. Sin is what prevents our hearts and souls from being filled with the Love of God (the Holy Spirit).
We will know when we are being separated from God’s Love when we cannot feel the presence of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. The Holy Spirit does not want to mingle with sin. The more sin we have in our hearts, and the more demons that have a grip on our souls, the less the Holy Spirit can dwell in us.
If we want to feel the Holy Spirit growing within us, we have to free our hearts, minds and souls from worldly desires and sinful feelings. We do this by asking Jesus to cleanse us from our sins and to teach us how to grow in our love for God. Jesus taught us how we can begin to grow in our love for God when he said, "And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment." (The Gospel, Mark 12:30)
The more we grow in our love for God the less we have a desire to do those things that cause us, and others, sorrow and pain (sin). The more we free our hearts, minds and souls from the sorrow and pain caused by sin, the more we can receive the full power of God’s Love through the Holy Spirit (which is an amazing feeling!).
The more we receive God's Love the more we realize what truly makes our hearts and souls happy, peaceful and content—and that is to feel the Love of God dwelling in us at all times.
As our souls become more happy, peaceful and content, the easier it becomes to avoid sin because we stop desiring what we think makes us happy in this world, and instead, desire the only thing that truly makes us happy—and that is to feel God’s Love dwelling in us at all times. This is when we not only know we have been Saved we can feel it too!
